History of the Venue

Picture of History of the Venue

Built in 1899 for Frank and Anne Semple, the Semple Mansion reflects the success of one of Minneapolis’s most prominent families at the turn of the century. Frank B. Semple was a partner and vice president of Janney, Semple & Co., a wholesale hardware firm that earned him the nickname “the Hardware King of Minneapolis.” Designed by Long, Lamoreaux & Long in the Second Italian Renaissance Revival style, the mansion features European details and the Grand Palladian Ballroom, the largest original residential ballroom in Minnesota. In 1998, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
